CAT Scan Spinal Imaging

CAT scan rapid imaging examines the bones of the spine, detecting problems such as fractures, deformities, or spinal narrowing. Our CAT scan evaluates complications due to osteoporosis such as compression fractures. Multi-slice CAT scan imaging allows for the reconstruction of 2D and 3D CAT scan images without additional patient exposure.

CAT Scan Myelography

CAT scan myelograms help demonstrate how the bone is affecting the nerve roots. This is a very sensitive CAT scan test for nerve impingement and can pick up very subtle lesions. Multi-planar reconstructions are commonly used in conjunction with spinal CAT scan myelography in order to provide a long-axis view of the spine. This CAT scan, providing a longitudinal view is particularly helpful for detecting disk protrusions or for viewing certain vertebral fractures.

CAT Scan Liver Imaging

CAT scan, multi-slice liver imaging allows rapid scanning in order to maximize differences in attenuation between the normal liver and the focal liver lesions or vascular anatomic features. In addition, our CAT scan, multi-slice liver imaging improves the quality of multi-planar and three-dimensional reconstructions of the liver, which is utilized for pre-surgical planning procedures.

CAT Scan Renal Stone Imaging

Multi-Slice CAT scan allows rapid, non-contrast imaging requiring no patient preparation. CAT scan imaging is performed from kidneys to pubic symphysis. This is a CAT scan screening for obstructing calculus in patients with acute flank pain, hematuria, and symptoms of renal colic.

CAT Scan High-Resolution Chest

Our high-resolution chest CAT scan detects lung disorders, such as old or new pneumonia, tuberculosis, and diffuse interstitial. When clinical findings and regular chest x-rays are inconclusive, a high-resolution CAT scan may clarify the situation.

CAT Scan Sinuses & Temporal Bones

CAT Scan is also used to diagnose problems in the sinuses and inner ear. The sub-millimeter, CAT scan imaging generates high-resolution images of the soft tissues and fine bones of these structures which can be reconstructed into 2D and 3D images without additional patient exposure.

CAT Scan of the Neck

CAT scans of the neck can produce high-resolution images and reconstructions. Often times, CAT scans of the neck will detect abnormalities that would have gone unnoticed in a conventional x-ray image.

CAT Scan Extremities & Joints

High-resolution CAT scan of the extremities or joints remains the gold standard where bony detail is of primary importance for surgical planning.

CAT Scan Angiography

CAT scan angiography is a minimally invasive CAT scan imaging technique for detecting diseases from renal artery stenosis to intracranial or aortic aneurysms.

Pediatric CAT Scan Imaging

Low-dose pediatric CAT scan imaging and high-resolution, sub-millimeter CAT scan imaging are the standard.

    CT is basically a specialized x-ray that takes multiple images in a single breathhold or picture. A CT is more detailed than a routine x-ray and is particularly useful to demonstrate several types of tissues such as the lungs, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels with great detail.

    CT imaging is considered safe. The benefit of a CT scan usually outweighs the risk of radiation exposure or the injection of contrast during some CT procedures. Please inform the technologist if you are pregnant, have a history of diabetes, asthma, kidney disorders, or allergies to iodine.

    CT involves radiation exposure; therefore, your physician must provide you with a prescription in order for you to receive a CT examination. Additionally, the prescription provides specific instructions regarding the procedure to be performed thus enabling our office to provide the best service possible.

    Multi-slice CT scanners acquire images at a rapid rate. A CT examination usually takes five minutes to half an hour depending on the examination being performed.

    There are two types of contrast used during routine CT procedures, oral and IV contrast. Oral contrast is a barium liquid you may be asked to drink in preparation to better see the stomach, small bowel and colon. Some individuals experience a sense of abdominal fullness and an increasing need to expel the liquid. The commonly used IV contrast is Iodine based. If IV contrast is necessary, you will be injected into a vein to better define and differentiate the blood vessels, organs, and abnormal tissue. The technologist will provide additional instructions regarding the IV injection.

    You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for your procedure. Metal items can affect the image, so you should avoid clothing with zippers or metal buttons in the area of interest. The technologist may ask you to remove hair accessories, jewelry, eyeglasses, hearing aids and any removable dental work, depending on the body part being imaged. Additionally, you may be asked not to eat several hours prior to your exam. If contrast or a special procedure is ordered like a CT Myelogram or CT Guided Arthrogram a staff member will provide you with additional instructions. If you are pregnant please inform the technologist.

    CT imaging uses radiation and MR utilizes radiofrequency. Both CT and MR are useful diagnostic examinations. MR has the advantage of showing detailed anatomy such as the cartilage in your knee while being non-invasive. A CT of the Chest can provide detail of your lungs and sinuses.

    The advantages of CT scans over x-rays include the large amount of data a CT scan provides, the ability of the physician to manipulate the data into various views without additional imaging of the patient, and the ability to selectively enhance or remove structures from the images.
