A legacy of innovation
University Diagnostic Institute (UDI) is the oldest and most respected imaging center in the Tampa Bay area. This premier outpatient medical imaging facility was founded in 1983 on the campus of the University of South Florida, down the street from USF Morsani Clinics and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center.
It was the first specialized high-tech medical imaging center in Tampa. The first out-patient Magnetic Resonance Imaging Center in the Tampa Bay area, beginning operations in 1984. Since then, the original MRI scanner has been upgraded. We currently have to two, 1.5 Tesla MRI Scanners, joined by a 3.0 Tesla MRI sophisticated and advanced medical imaging scanner.

Our professional medical staff, MDs are all fully licensed to practice medicine in Florida and are Board Certified by the American College of Radiology. All Neuroradiologists are senior members of the American Society of Neuroradiology and have Certificates of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Neuroradiology. In addition to fellowship training in Neuroradiology, our physicians all have over 40 years cumulative experience in Musculoskeletal MRI Imaging.
Dr. Carney completed a formal MSK Fellowship and Dr. Taylor is a fellowship trained Body Imaging radiologist. Our technologists are Registered in Radiography by the ARRT and hold an additional Registry in either CT or MR Imaging.
Our experienced Neuroradiologists, Musculoskeletal, and Abdominal Imaging Radiologists, along with the highly trained technical staff, continue to provide exceptional service to our community. Our state-of-the-art facilities
Equipment accredited by the American College of Radiology
There are two MR machines located on site, both operating at the highest field strength useful for human imaging. One of our machines, a General Electric Horizon model, functions at the echo-speed level necessary for functional brain imaging, ultra-fast scan times, vascular imaging, MR cholangiography, and other cutting-edge MR applications. The new machine also has an extremely large central bore which significantly decreases the claustrophobia reported by many patients.
In fact, it is often possible to avoid having to perform a less-detailed, low-field strength "open" MRI; a more detailed high-field strength scan can now be obtained on claustrophobic patients with this new machine.
